Nakuru Conducts Social Accountability Forum for Health Services

Written by Ruth Magak

The County’s Department of Health Services is focused on achieving its mission which is the provision of integrated quality health services for all with the vision of “A Healthy County“.

In order to achieve this, the Department of Health has partnered with the Centre for Transformational Leadership – CTL with support from Uraia to accord Nakuru residents an opportunity to give their reflections about Health service delivery in a social accountability forum.

Uraia Trust is an organisation that supports active citizenry by promoting state action and citizen engagement towards realizing improved democratic governance, accountability and respect for the rule of law, access to justice, human rights and gender equality.

During the forum, members of the public have had an opportunity to reflect on the County’s performance and public participation in decision-making and service delivery, monitoring and evaluation.

Highlighting the impact, successes, and challenges of social accountability work in Nakuru County, the CTL team engaged the team present together with county representatives to identify practical ways of scaling and improving citizen engagement in Nakuru county.

County Health Administrative Officer, Mr Dominic Mburu emphasized the importance of Public participation in county planning and budgeting. He urged the community members present to be part of the process.

Social Accountability forums give an opportunity for the public to evaluate the current situation, barriers and areas of improvement to enhance sustainable development in the County.
